RACE RULES

GENERAL

The spirit of friendly competition should be upheld throughout the event. Any unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate disqualification. The decisions of the Race Director are final and are not subject to appeal.

SWIM

  •  The winners in each category are the first, second, and third place finishers from the first wave of their respective category.

  • Each entry allows a competitor to participate in only one age category.

  • Competitors who wish to compete in both their age group and the open Elite category must indicate this during registration.

  • Competitors may participate in the open event with permission from the Race Director.

  • Transfers from an assigned category to the open Elite category must be approved by the Race Director and requested at least five days prior to Race Day.

  •  The overall open winners will be determined from those competing in the Elite wave.

  • The use of extraneous aids such as wetsuits, fins, boards, snorkels, flotation devices, or personal support teams is prohibited.

  • Note: A swimmer who wishes to use aids such as fins may be permitted after confirmation with the Race Director, but they will not be eligible for podium positions or prize money in any category.

  • Wetsuits and performance-enhancing swimsuits (e.g., those providing buoyancy or compression) are not allowed. Please refer to the SLSA sports manual for FINA-approved swimsuits.

  • Goggles are allowed and recommended.

  • All swimmers must wear an official swim cap and a transponder on their ankle. No swimmer will be recorded as a finisher without these items.

  • Organizers reserve the right to accept, reject, or cancel any entries.

  • The organizers will evaluate ocean conditions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and may adjust the course or race conditions as necessary to ensure the event's safety and fairness.

  • Swimmers are required to follow the designated course. Any changes will be communicated prior to the race.

  • Swimmers who cross the start line before the starting signal may face disqualification.

  • Protests must be submitted in writing to the Race Director within 15 minutes after the provisional results are announced. The Race Director’s decisions are final.

  • Race officials may remove a competitor if they are deemed physically unable to continue without risking injury to themselves or others. This includes swimmers who are unlikely to complete the race within 45 minutes, in the interest of safety for all participants.

  • Timings will be recorded via ankle-worn timing chips, but for placings and prize money, a competitor’s finish is determined when their chest crosses the finish line. Judges will be present at the finish to determine final positions in each category.

  • Competitors who place in any category should remain near the finish area for the award presentations, which will follow shortly after the race concludes.
